I became interested in yoga in the 1980s at Iyengar classes. During which time I attended local yoga classes, weekend workshops, Yoga holiday courses in India, Turkey and Greece which broadened my view on yoga by practicing with different teachers. I wanted to know more about Yoga and myself so, much later embarked on Teacher Training in the Iyengar system, qualifying in 2004.
It was at such a workshop that I found myself in a class guided by Bill Wood, who favours the teachings of the late and revered yoga teacher Vanda Scaravelli.
His instructions have translated into my yoga practice with a clear direction, every move coming from a firm foundation in the ground and into my body by using the breath to create an undoing and freeing, allowing much more movement naturally. This was a new experience for me.
I continue to work with my teacher regularly each month to enrich my knowledge, enabling me to share the pleasure of this practice with anyone who cares to come to one of my classes where there is no competition at all.
We have to let go to feel, then we find the freedom.
